DiskUtility is free and you already have it, and it can back up and restore a volume; it isn't hard and doesn't take very long. (treating the drive as a folder), turn this into an "Apple Software Restore" image, and then use the Restore function of Disk Utility to clone it back to the newly made partition.

Partitioning in XP, Revisited.
Recently when I ran Spybot Search and Destroy (the only FREE anti-malware app one can trust) on one of my Win2K partitions it found not less than 311 malware products. Spybot S&D removed them all in no time. That Win2K partition of mine is a legacy partition with some software left still.
